How much do you make?

esq-qI was sitting watch in the corner of a distant gate in the Atlanta airport. Across from me sat a guy wearing expensive denim, bright pink socks, a blazer that was beautifully, almost comically, blue, and a white belt. There he sat, laptop hinged upon his folded legs, arms up on the seats next to him as if he were embracing two invisible pals. He’d slipped his shoes off, tucked them beneath his seat. Eating pistachios and watching Braveheart — so relaxed, so unstressed by the terminal bustle, that it looked like he owned the world, or at least the little part of it that concerned him. All that, and the backs of his hands were conspicuously tan. After a while, I named him, as if he were a character in my movie: He was the yachtsman.

It was just the two of us in the corner. Eventually we made eye contact, and I asked him: “What do you make?”

The yachtsman jerked an earbud free. “Excuse me?”

“How much you make?”

“You mean money?” He narrowed his eyes. He tilted his head. “What kind of question is that?”

“Okay,” I said. “You don’t have to tell me.”

Meet the 14th century Afrikan king who was richest man in the world of all time (adjusted for inflation)!

article-2218025-1583BFCE000005DC-977_306x436An obscure king who ruled West Africa in the 14th century has been named the richest person in history in a new inflation-adjusted list of the world’s 25 wealthiest people of all time.

Spanning 1,000 years and with a combined fortune of $4.317trillion, only three of the list’s 25 are alive today; none of them are women and 14 of them are American.

Using the annual 2199.6per cent rate of inflation, where $100million in 1913 is equal to $2.299.63billion in 2012, Celebrity Net Worth’s list includes familiar names like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett; but sitting at number one is Mansa Musa I of Mali.

The West Africa king, the richest person in history, and the ruler of the Malian Empire which covered modern day Ghana, Timbuktu and Mali in West Africa, had a personal net worth of $400billion at the time of his death in 1331.

Master P Says Other Sports Agents Are “Terrified” Of Jay Z

master_p_10-620x351Jay Z’s big splash in the sports agency industry, while a huge feat, does not set a precedent among rappers. Back when Master P was at the height of his success, in the late ‘90s, the New Orleans mogul also tried his hand at sports agency founding No Limit Sports Management and even representing former New Orleans Saints running back Ricky Williams at one point. P, who has since left that arena alone, recently appeared on EPSN’s First Take and gave his thoughts on how Jigga is handling his shot in the big leagues. The Ice Cream Man said he doesn’t think Hov needs the partnership he has and said other agents are probably shaking in their boots at the prospect of having to compete with the rap moguls brand. “I think that he is strong enough that he could actually do this on his own,” said P speaking on Jay’s partnership with CAA. “I think a lot of athletes look up to him and listen to his music. At this time in his life I think that he is at his prime. I don’t think he needs CAA.”

Mr. Miller also believes other tenured sports agencies are probably scared of what Jay can bring to the table for potential clients. He has already wooed Kevin Durant away from his former sports agency and claims Robinson Cano, Geno Smith and Skylar Diggins as clients. “I think they are terrified. I think they are scared,” he said. “But you got to look at what he is doing with CAA. It’s a great move because now he has expertise. He has the professionals who have been doing that business before he got into it. But I think with his celebrity status and his brand, what he has built, he has this generation that wants to be a part of it…I would want to be with him, right now,” P added.

” Try to make changes, try to make it right.  Nobody listens so you gotta fight…”

-“Games People Play” Sweet G (1982)

Over the last couple of weeks the media have been buzzin’ about the protests taking place in London over the death of Mark Duggan, a black man, gunned down by the police. Apparently, the rebellions were organized mostly by activists via social media networks. In contrast, the main Hip Hop story happening in the US over the weekend was Hip Hop artist, the Game, being accused of playing a game of “You Got Punked” with the Compton Sheriff Department via his Twitter account.

Preview: Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne”

On July 8, 2011, Jay-Z hosted an intimate listening session for the looming, game changing, genre bending Hip-Hop opus Watch The Throne. Roughly 20 people were invited to the exclusive event, which interestingly enough included the two teenage New Yorkers that purchased the first two copies of the album on Amazon.com’s preorder. They were there along with their parents, who were gracious enough to tolerate a long evening for the sake of their kids. Where to begin? There was so much to absorb of the evening so I’ll write this similar to the way Watch The Throne was crafted…free-flowing and without rules.

There were some ground rules for the session though. 1) No live tweeting. We could say we were there and that’s about it. One journo from The Fader was kicked out with the swiftness for tweeting specifics. 2) No quoting exact lyrics in write ups. Why? Because, although we heard a lot, Watch The Throne is not finished. Lyrics may change. 3) No specific song titles. They aren’t set either.

So, here is the song-by-song rundown of Watch The Throne.

Top 10 Jay-Z featured verses

10. Missy Elliot – One Minute Man Remix: He DISSED the woman he ended up marrying! LOL The irony of this verse’s existence is what puts it over the top for me. And besides that, the verse was very ill indeed.

“I’m not trying to give you love an affection. I’m trying to give you sixty seconds of perfection.”

9. Beyonce – Crazy In Love: Of all of his collaborations with his wife, this verse stands out the most because of the as-always cockiness. The rhyme schemes are sick, point blank.

“Ever since I made the change over platinum, the game’s been a wrap. One”

8. Rick Ross – Free Mason: Jay (momentarily smh) shut down the ridiculously jumbled rumors of him being affiliated with Freemasons, devil worshippers, and other retarded conspiracy nonsense.

“Bitch, I said I was amazing, not that I’m a Mason. It’s amazing that I made it through the maze that I was in.

7. Memphis Bleek – Is That Your Chick?: The subliminals at Nas and/or Biggie were just the icing on the cake. You know Jay is blacking out on a song when he spits more than one verse on someone else’s song. The rapid fire flow was so nice that he even outshone Twista, which is 99% impossible.

“How foul is she? And You wifed her. Shit, I put the rubber on tighter.”
